RCR! Presents Real Discussions!
Topic: A Conversation with Ken Rye. Aired on September 17, 2017.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please meet Ken Rye ~ The Strategy Guy!
I was fortunate that our schedules aligned and I was able to have A Conversation With Ken Rye on RCR! Presents Real Discussions. This one put me in a humble position because not only was I a fan of his when he was WCLK 91.9 FM here in Atlanta, but he also became my mentor. His early days at the radio station taught him well as he met some of the most influential artists in the business. His radio and business partner Ken Beatty also played a significant part in Ken's life. This year reflects 10 years since Ken Beatty has passed, however, his presence and words of wisdom live with Ken today.
Ken has the ability to constantly see talented, skilled individuals and provide strategic suggestions that take their brand to the next level. He gets it and understands what drives markets, global presence, and brand recognition.
Working for major corporations was his focal point as well as bringing live shows to the Atlanta area. Ken believes that the connections between an audience, the artist, and the music make it all magical.
Now, Ken Rye and I work together in producing live shows and entertainment under his brand Hot Ice Live.
There's so much to say about this guy from his early days in Detroit, growing up in Chicago and then his Morehouse years in Atlanta. Marketing, Strategic Planning and his love for music all make up the man we know and see working with so many today. He's got history, stories and loads experience to paint the picture of Atlanta, various artists and the world of entertainment.
Special thanks to Ken Rye for coming by and spending some time with me. Thanks to Instinct Radio for giving us the space and time to have the interview.
~Take every opportunity to build relationships.
~ Leave people with a good experience.
~ Make every step lead you towards becoming legendary.
Until next time, continue to... #ROCKon
The Importance of Self Care…
It sounds so simple, but yet overlooked. Often times, we get up and go without taking enough time to ensure that we’re applying the proper self-care for ourselves. We need to be able to ensure that the necessary steps are taken in order to keep ourselves strengthen on a daily basis.
As people of color, our day to day struggles, opportunities and/or challenges can tend to be different than what other races and cultures might be faced with. It’s unfortunate, however, very real. Our thoughts consist of dealing with micro aggression in the workplace, chronic stress and climate changes and challenges within the current society. We are a resilient people, however, we still need to provide self-care. It could be as small as eating more vegetables, taking breaks throughout the day to stretch more or going to be early. These are just a few small, simple and yet significant ones that can be incorporated.
The SisterCARE Alliance is designed to give people (both men and women) the tools needed to begin a self-care regimen and lifestyle. The majority of the recipients are women, however, men have been on board and supportive as well. Anana Harris Parris, Founder of Sister Alliance spoke of this vision as she was going through her own discovery in need of self-care. The self-care guide titled 'Self-Care Matters – A Revolutionary’s Approach' helps individuals address and undercover all areas that are needed. By taking one step at a time, having someone hold you accountable and seeing your growth from one week to the next is what it’s all about. The goal is for individuals to adapt to a self-care revolution; owning what they need and being able to identify those critical needs on a daily basis.
For more information about obtaining a self-care revolutionary life, go to www.sisterCareAlliance.org or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

With Toronto always being his home, Joonya T had the influence of soca, reggae and hip hop music. He and his mom would listen to all different kinds of music including country western. Music filled their home especially, every Saturday as they did the household chores together.
As a kid, Joonya T began to join little clubs within the school. Next thing he knows, he found himself DJing his 1st party in the 6th grade. Eventually, he began liking house music before he really knew what it was.
Once he discovered it, he and his friends would find themselves enjoying the house music parties and catching vibes at parties. He and his crew found themselves chilling in the 'Back Corner' when they arrived at the parties. The name stuck and the music continued to be more and more enticing.
Terry (as I like to call him) started following the music he liked the by connecting with the producer of the tracks. By doing this, he was able to meet, connect and build a relationship with Karizma and they became good friends. Karizma was working on HandzOnRadio at the time, and time slot opened up and Terry started his radio career.
The show's format is uniquely different as he provides the names, artist and record label for each track and for every show. There's typically not much talking when house music is playing at a party but Terry wanted to find a way to connect with his listeners and having them dance on the virtual dance floor. At first, some didn't like it but the others would want him to speak if they felt he was too quiet.
His musical track selections, sense of style and show format is a staple and continues to keep his listeners plugged in from around the world. Five years and counting with his radio show, expanding his product line and producing more music is what's on the radar for Terry.
Some vitamins from this conversation are...
- Stay passionate about what you do
- Let your work and style speak for itself
- Tell a friend, tell a friend, tell a friend about the good music that's out here and the people who play it
- Love what you do and do what you love.
And until next time, always continue to #ROCKon
When you walk in truth, you will set an example that others can follow if they want to live in peace and blessing. Those that live and walk in light are able to access everything that is available to them through faith. It is worth it to make the changes necessary to live in truth and always do good.
Pay attention to the signs around you, for The Universe will speak to you in a variety of ways and will show you things that you need to see so that you can understand what's going in areas you can't see. At this time you can make your plans, but you must hold them loosely as with an open hand so that you can be led by The Universe. Your next step, is to let it guide you as your well being may depend on it.
Set yourself apart from all turmoil, and dedicate yourself to your purpose. The Universe knows you; knows your name, your current situation, and your challenges. Be at peace and trust it to lead you through the maze of circumstances that you now face. Do not be afraid; it will guide you and it will show you the way.
Your encounters will reveal situations that would not only become distractions, but could cause you to feel disoriented. You need to keep your feet planted firmly on what is true and good. Entertaining any fantasy at all will result in a long and unfruitful ride. Stay present and look to The Universe for guidance. Be alert!
You are embarking on a new phase of existence, and spiritual understanding is vital to your well-being. If you will quiet your inside chatter and listen, you receive wisdom and instruction. You cannot hear the small voice from within unless you take control of your thoughts and emotions. The Universe is able to lead, guide, direct and protect you. Be calm and enjoy the journey.
As you continue on your journey, you must keep in mind that love is the primary thing. Let your love for one another override every other emotional reaction and mental response to life and circumstances. If this is on the top of your list, all other areas will follow and flow.
Sometimes you feel like you have stalled and are no longer moving forward. Do not despair. You should take advantage of this quiet time to do internal work. Pay particular attention to things brought to your attention that require a change of motivation and attitude. Align yourself and be done with self-justification.
There are certain requirements that must be met at this time before you can be free to do the next thing. Establish yourself in a place of willingness to do all that's needed for you to do. Be strong, stay focused and do the work.
Things have not worked out as you envisioned or expected, but you must get past discouragement and disappointment. There is still purpose for your life, which does not depend on what you view as failure. Your future will depend on your relationship with The Creator, and your willingness to be led by a The Universe. Your responsibility is to yield to it and trust it.
Re-establish yourself on the solid ground. You cannot acquire benefits without trusting The Universe. And, you cannot rely on your efforts alone to achieve maximum benefits. You have heard it said that desperate times call for desperate measures. Do not think of faith as your last act of desperation, but your first choice in getting help.
Happy Thanksgiving fro us to YOU! This Season of Giving, we want you to share your moments of gratitude and giving back! Please visit our submissions page to send us a photo of you doing something good in your community!
Resist the temptation to follow distractions that lead you away from your truth. Not everything that is a diversion from what is normal for you is a distraction. You will have to evaluate whether or not you are getting further away from your truth or coming closer as a result of your activities. Let The Universe lead you in the way you should go, and you will be strengthened.
Take the time and seize the moment to step back from your troubles and view your life from an objective and greater perspective. See it through the eyes and truth of eternity, and be grateful. Remember that you belong to here however, you are just passing through all that is temporary on your way to that which lasts forever.
Come out to Urban Grind (962 Marietta Street, Atlanta, GA) for our monthly installment of KEEP GRINDING! This will be our last event of the year and we want it to be the BEST one yet! We will be featuring an ALL VINYL set from guest DJs: Nabani Banks and DJ Mack Bango.
